RIM is a quick and easy option designed to allow clients to not just manage symptoms, but dissolve issues at the root cause. Research participants showed 100% of subjects experienced a significant reduction of symptoms in a single session. From the research paper: "...although we caution readers that these pre-post results do not demonstrate causation or treatment efficacy in the same way as a randomized controlled trial. Participants reported significantly lower levels of depression and anxiety, higher motivation for self-care, and lower stress after a single session of RIM, based on dependent-group t-tests with Bonferroni corrections for multiple comparisons."

You are enough! Sure, we can always find evidence that no matter what we do, it never feels enough. Stress, anxiety, indecision, broken relationships, poor health, chronic pain, obesity, frustration, overwhelm, depression, trauma, etc. can are be symptoms rooted in old stuck emotions, that can often be easily dissolved. Whether its childhood events, current situations or inherited ancestral trauma, RIM is designed to work beneath logic to dissolve the root cause of the issue.
Can you imagine feeling freer, lighter and more at peace after just a single phone session? Join our long list of clients that tell us just that. Most people think that since you can't change the past, you have to learn to manage your emotions and use coping skills to create a better future. Imagine the peace you would be enjoying if you COULD change the past. New discoveries in neuroplasticity teach us that maybe we CAN change our emotional past, and the nervous system treats a well-done regenerated experience as a real event. Clients don't just feel better, they feel different after RIM. Picture yourself feeling more patient, confident, creative and more at ease with uncertainty. Imagine how you'll feel interacting with your family when old triggers are no longer triggering. Begin to see yourself connecting with others as you feel resourced, loved and supported in the world. RIM is very different from traditional therapy or coaching. Working with raw emotion rather than thought, RIM allows for profound change at a visceral level. RIM is a revolutionary transformational technique, rooted in Two Minds Theory and grounded in neuroscience, that can quickly and easily release stuck negative emotional thoughts, feelings and memories, so you can be free. If you're ready for real shifts and profound results, if you're tired of talking about your feelings and stories, you are in good company and now you have an alternative. From the research: "As in other RIM studies, benefits were seen in a single session, which is notably faster than the median 10–20 sessions needed to achieve therapeutic effects in traditional talk therapy".
RIM is a favorite tool used by therapists, and is very therapeutic, but in itself, is not therapy. RIM can safely be used by well-trained coaches and other professionals without tripping over professional boundaries. RIM is not for clients who are diagnosed with Bipolar, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, or Borderline Personality. In the RIM process, we do not diagnose, prescribe, or facilitate any sort of psychological manipulation. The RIM process trusts your own healing power. Typically, after a RIM session my clients say things like they feel different, lighter, relaxed, like a huge weight has been lifted. It is a beautiful honor to witness such dramatic healing. "My RIM sessions have multiplied my joy, it's immeasurable!
The images were clear and developed spontaneously. It was like I rearranged the furniture inside myself, and that was what was needed! A smaller part of myself had been contentedly stuck in the shadows to my detriment. The sessions freed up my heart to love, a lot more, without reservations! I am very grateful for this process!" ~ Nancy, PhD Licensed Clinical Psychologist

The Science of RIM
2025 Groundbreaking Research from University of Colorado
New study demonstrates that Regenerating Images in Memory (RIM) leads to rapid symptom improvement and neurocognitive shifts—offering a promising, non-drug alternative for trauma and stress relief. A pioneering study published today in Frontiers in Psychology uncovers striking parallels between the effects of a brief, verbal therapeutic intervention and those reported in psychedelic-assisted therapy research. The research, led by Dr. Paul F. Cook and colleagues at the University of Colorado College of Nursing and the RIM Institute, introduces compelling neurocognitive evidence for a novel mechanism of action in emotional & wellbeing health treatment[1][2][3].
Key Findings:
This research offers a new perspective for coaches, therapists, and behavioral medicine professionals seeking effective, neuroscience-backed interventions for trauma and stress. The RIM technique is brief, client-centered, and does not rely on medication or lengthy protocols. The findings suggest that RIM may provide a safe and accessible alternative to the rapid results of psychedelic-assisted therapy, especially in settings where drug-based treatments are not feasible or preferred[1][3]. Further, it is a natural, nonclinical way of collaborating with our inherent abilities to heal at the visceral level where trauma and pain originally register.
Implications for Coaching and Therapy Professionals
The study, titled appears in the May 2025 issue of Frontiers in Psychology and is available here: “How is a psychotherapeutic process like a psychedelic drug? Neurocognitive evidence for a novel mechanism of action with Regenerating Images in Memory”
Key Findings:
- Rapid Symptom Improvement: Thirty nursing students at high risk for traumatic stress received a single session of Regenerating Images in Memory (RIM). Participants reported significant improvements in mood, anxiety, and motivation, with effect sizes (Cohen’s d) ranging from 1.93 to 2.75 on four of five validated symptom questionnaires[1][3].
- Heightened States of Consciousness: Participants experienced states similar to those reported in psychedelic drug studies, particularly on the “ineffability” (indescribable) subscale—a measure linked to rapid symptom improvement in psychedelic research[1][3]. The difference is the participants during the experience feel in control and able to see how their insights will positively influence their daily lives
- Neurocognitive Shifts: EEG brainwave monitoring revealed a significant shift in brain activity away from the frontal lobes (associated with conscious, narrative thinking) to the temporal lobes (associated with intuitive, nonconscious processing) during the middle phase of RIM. The final phase showed co-activation of both regions, mirroring findings from psychedelic therapy studies that highlight increased thinking and feeling brain synchronization during healing[1][3].
- Mechanism of Action: RIM’s “dip-see-do” process—guided by Two Minds Theory—helps clients safely re-experience and regenerate troubling memories, integrating them into empowering body memory. This process is grounded in nonconscious processes like emotional processing and body awareness, and does not require the client to be consciously aware of the core issue at the outset[1].

Implications for Coaching and Therapy Professionals
- This study supports the value of integrating imagery-based, body-aware, and client-led interventions into coaching and therapeutic practices.
- For facilitators: RIM offers a structured yet flexible approach that can be adapted to a wide range of client needs, including those struggling with trauma, anxiety, unresolved grief and facilitating healthy life decisions.
- For clients: RIM is empowering and often leads to immediate, positive shifts in emotional well-being and self-perception[1].

RIM Article by Dr Deb Sandella
RIM initially began as a synthesis of techniques that access the subconscious mind directly, such as Somatic Therapy, Ericksonian Hypnosis, and Interactive Guided Imagery, yet RIM has continued to expand and evolve significantly. The first study of RIM efficacy was a research intervention for people suffering with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). This study found that RIM significantly decreases the symptoms of stress-related illness and significantly increases one's quality of life (Boxwell Dissertation, Holos University, 2004).
At the RIM Institute, we have seen remarkable recoveries. Clients stuck in grieving from earlier events like a loved one's suicide or murder find peace in one session. Clients with physical conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson have gone into remission. One client with a "complete" spinal cord injury is walking in braces. Psychologically, clients have freed themselves from traumatic memories, and others have learned how to use RIM to make wise decisions in a split second. We have learned from client feedback that, "When [clients] leave a psychotherapy session [they] feel good. After a RIM session, [they] feel different." RIM clients look and act different too! One spouse remarked about her husband, after his RIM session, "He looked ten years younger."
In fact, the RIM process allows clients to re-generate their internal neurologically grounded sense of self in such a profound way, we believe their emotional memory is permanently altered for the better. The latest neuro-science findings support the efficacy of RIM by explaining that the brain and nervous system is "plastic" or changeable. According to researcher Dr. Candace Pert (Molecules of Emotion), our emotional experiences are stored in the body at feeling-specific neurotransmitter sites and can be re-keyed to create different emotions than those feelings to which we have previously been addicted. Since the brain registers an imagined experience similar to a real experience, we can re-generate emotional memory to create neuro-pathways for new endings to old stories. All the while, factual memory remains stable. Finally, during the RIM process, clients integrate a new felt body-experience that translates to automatic or reflexive behavioral, physical, and psychological changes.

“Since doing RIM, I have a lot less brain chatter, I'm more confident, I listen better, I'm a better parent and wife (less angry and I find the right words), and I'm better at doing things for me, not only for other people, and I think I have a little more clarity about the next chapter in my life.” ~ Veronika Wilsher, San Francisco
I am very pleased with the results of my first RIM session. It allowed me to release the strong hold of un-forgiveness and lack of compassion toward my mother. I was able to say the things and have closure and resolution I deeply desired. I have since moved forward and forgiven her without expectations. The door of possibility has been opened after 45 years, to having a positive relationship with my mom. Thank you Michael for sharing your gift! ~ Yvette Gorman Holmes, Speaker, Success Coach, Health and Wellness Trainer
"The advantage that RIM has over other "therapies", is the relaxed state that the client is in compared to a more "traumatic" experience that one-on-one therapy can sometimes bring. I do think RIM can take someone through their particular issues in a much shorter period of time." ~ Edward J. Jedlicka~ PhD
